Sideways Rain Burst Over Winter Dhaka Prairie in near Dhaka

Sideways Rain Burst Over Winter Dhaka Prairie

by Nathaniel May

Honeyed evening light spills across a flat prairie near Dhaka, turning the winter air into a shimmering heat haze. The sky hangs low and heavy, but the rain does not fall straight. Instead, a violent horizontal burst pushes the water sideways across the dry, dormant grass. Golden rays slice through the mist, illuminating individual droplets that streak leftward with impossible speed. The ground remains a patchwork of brown stalks and dark earth, against the bright, churning moisture in the air. Shadows stretch long and thin across the field, anchoring the chaotic motion to the stillness of the earth. One droplet clings to a withered stalk, defying the wind's pull.
