Rust-colored steel plates of a wool press sit at the edge of a dusty feedlot lane in the Nile Delta, framed from behind as the day transitions to dusk. The metal surface bears streaks of dried lanolin and faint scuff marks from heavy boots. A biosecurity boot bath filled with amber antiseptic solution sits adjacent, its plastic rim weathered by sun and salt. Distant city lights begin to glow on the horizon, casting a soft, warm orange hue across the flat, dry earth. The ground remains cracked and sparse, with dry vegetation resting on the fence line. A heavy rope coil rests against the press mechanism, its fibers frayed at the ends, while the shadow of the equipment stretches long and sharp across the packed dirt floor. A small patch of green moss rests on the base of the boot bath.
