Dusk settles over a busy East Los Angeles taqueria as light rain slicks the pavement outside, reflecting the warm glow of interior fluorescent tubes. Through the condensation-fogged window, a line cook in a stained white apron slides a steaming aluminum tray onto the counter, the metal clattering against the counter's edge. A customer in a translucent yellow rain poncho waits patiently, holding a paper bag, while a stack of white paper plates sits precariously near the register. The cook’s hands move with practiced speed, wrapping a burrito in foil, the steam rising into the cool, damp air of the kitchen. Outside, a red stop sign glows softly through the drizzle, framing the intimate, bustling scene of late-night sustenance.
