Warm amber firelight spills across a long wooden table set for a Scottish Burns Night supper inside a vast ceremonial hall in Hangzhou. Guests in dark suits stand in quiet clusters around the central platter of haggis, their faces illuminated by the flickering glow of nearby candles and torches. The room stretches wide into the distance, its high stone arches disappearing into the deepening twilight of the early spring evening. Outside the tall windows, the last rays of the sun paint the sky in pale violet and soft orange. The polished floor reflects the shifting light, creating a shimmering path that leads toward the solitary figure standing at the far end of the room, holding a glass of whisky against the backdrop of the setting sun.
