Scientist Photographs Lichen on Granite in Exeter

Condensation beads rest on the cold metal housing of a camera rig resting on wet granite. A scientist holds a white ruler card against a patch of crusty lichen growing on the stone surface. The setting is Exeter, where late spring evening brings a soft glow from city lights reflecting across nearby water. The light bounces off the damp surface, illuminating the texture of the rock and the delicate green-gray patterns of the lichen. The ruler provides scale, its markings sharp against the organic growth. Water droplets scatter across the metal casing, catching the ambient illumination. The composition aligns the equipment along the right third of the frame, leaving the textured stone to occupy the left. One droplet slides slowly down the metal edge.
