Cobbler Mending Sandals in Tezpur Square Sunset

Warm firelight glows against the damp stone of a public square in Tezpur as late summer clouds break. A cobbler sits on a low wooden bench, his hands busy with leather straps and a curved awl. The ground reflects the orange sky, slick with rain that recently passed. Dust hangs suspended in the shafts of light, settling on worn tools and the rough texture of unfinished sandals. Behind him, the square stretches into shadow, framed by distant arches and the silhouette of a neem tree. His posture is hunched forward, focused on the stitching. one drop of water rests on the edge of a wooden tool, catching the firelight before falling to the wet pavement.
