Sambar Deer Bellowing in Winter Sunrise Mist

Pale winter light spills across the damp earth near Al-Hasakah, illuminating a heavy mist that rests on the ground. A massive sambar deer stands center frame, its dark antlers silhouetted against the softening sky. Moisture coats its thick brown fur, creating a glistening texture where the first rays of sunrise strike the shoulder. The air hangs thick and still, suggesting recent rain has just passed. Bare branches of scattered trees emerge from the fog in the background, their gray forms fading into the white haze. The animal's mouth is open in a deep call, vibrating the quiet space. One droplet of water slides from the tip of a nearby leaf onto the muddy soil below.
