Sake Brewer Stirring Cedar Vat Twilight Japan

Deep indigo shadows cloak the terraced garden plots while a sliver of twilight rim light traces the curved edge of a massive cedar vat. A sake brewer stands inside the wooden vessel, gripping a long stirring pole with both hands. Their dark clothing blends into the dim interior of the cask, against the pale wood grain visible along the vat's thick rim. Mist rests on the low-hanging branches of surrounding evergreens, dampened by a storm that has just passed. The stone terraces below glisten with fresh water, reflecting the faint cool blue of the evening sky. Long shadows stretch across the mossy ground, showing the steep slope of the garden. one drop of water slides down the rough bark of a nearby pine, catching the last faint glow of the day.
