Rugby Scrum Locking on Muddy Suzhou Riverbank

Bright midsummer sunlight cuts through a thin layer of light fog hovering just above a churned muddy pitch near a Suzhou riverbank. Twelve players in dark jerseys form a tight scrum, their bodies locked shoulder to shoulder in a horizontal wall of muscle and effort. The ground is a slick mixture of brown earth and water, clumping thickly around their cleats. Behind the huddle, the river reflects the pale sky, while distant willow branches hang low over the water's edge. Sweat glistens on exposed necks and forearms, against the gray mist that softens the background trees. at the edge is a clod of wet clay clinging to the side of the front row's boot.
