Cool blue twilight washes a white ceramic plate holding Reunionese rougail saucisse and rice, resting on the deep crimson velvet of an armchair. The sausage slices show a reddish-brown glaze, against the bright white grains of rice. Dust motes hang suspended in narrow shafts of fading light that cut across the room from an unseen window. The velvet fabric gathers in soft folds beneath the plate, catching subtle highlights from the ambient blue glow. Behind the chair, the room dissolves into shadow, leaving the food as the sole focal point against the darkening interior. A thin reflection of the plate rim glimmers on the polished wooden floor nearby.
