Slices of seared beef, red tomato wedges, and yellow onions rest atop golden french fries, their edges crisp and glistening with oil. The steam rises faintly in the pre-dawn stillness of the Hargeisa restaurant. Nearby glassware catches the artificial light, creating streaks of color that mirror the dish below. The dry season air is invisible, but the crisp texture of the fried potatoes and the sheen on the vegetables suggest a meal prepared for the early morning. A silver fork rests beside the ceramic plate, its handle reflecting the ambient neon glow against the dark background of the room.
