Roses Sorted by Color in Dutch Warehouse
by Mike Cox
Thick morning mist rests on the hillside near El Mahalla El Kubra, softening the edges of a bustling flower auction warehouse. Bunches of roses in deep crimson, sunset orange, and pale ivory rest on metal sorting tables, their petals heavy with dew. Workers in dark jackets move with disciplined precision among the rows, their hands deftly separating stems by hue. The diffused dawn light falls through the fog, casting a cool, gray pallor over the wet concrete floor and the vibrant floral displays. In the immediate foreground, out-of-focus green leaves create a soft bokeh frame, drawing attention to the sharp contrast between the cool mist and the saturated colors of the blooms. One worker's gloved hand adjusts a stem near the edge of the table, anchoring the scene in quiet, focused labor.
