Misty diffused light blankets a market lane in Gütersloh as a gardener works along the row of leafy greens. From behind, the figure bends low over the soil, hands grasping crisp heads of lettuce to sever them from the earth. The heavy overcast sky casts a soft, even glow that eliminates harsh shadows, highlighting the wet sheen on the broad, pale green leaves. The lane stretches into the distance, flanked by neat rows of crops that vanish into the morning haze. one drop of condensation rests on the edge of a harvested head, catching the pale light before falling back onto the dark soil.
