Road Roller Compacts Asphalt Near Tidal Inlet

A massive road roller dominates the foreground, its heavy steel drum pressing down on the dark, glistening surface of fresh asphalt. The machine sits beside a muddy tidal inlet where the water reflects the pale morning sky. Low hanging dust rests on the air just above the wet ground, illuminated by a sharp rim of light that cuts through the deep shadows enveloping the scene. The rainy season moisture coats the surrounding grass in a heavy sheen, turning the earth into a slick, dark expanse. A small bird perches on the edge of the heavy machinery, its feathers ruffled by the vibration, staring intently at the approaching steel. The texture of the wet mud contrasts with the smooth, oily finish of the new road surface. one drop of water rolls from the bird's wing onto the black asphalt.
