Tropical bright light floods the wet asphalt of a wide crosswalk in Rize, where commuters move in a dense stream during late morning. The pavement glistens with recent rain, reflecting the harsh fluorescent glow from the convenience store signage behind them. Heat shimmer wavers visibly above the heated road surface, distorting the legs of the pedestrians and the white stripes of the crossing. Dark winter coats and umbrellas contrast against the saturated green of the tropical foliage lining the street edge. Raindrops bead on the transparent plastic of a nearby vendor's cart, while the grey sky remains low and heavy. The white paint of the crosswalk stripes appears slightly worn where the rubber soles of shoes have scuffed the surface.
