Flat noon light floods a ribbed concrete lobby in Kandahar, where heavy cantilevered slabs cast deep geometric shadows across the floor. An arcaded passage stretches into the distance, its repeating arches guiding the gaze along a straight, rigid path. Puddles of water on the ground reflect the gray sky and the rough texture of the concrete pillars, creating a shimmering, fractured surface beneath the overcast brightness. Water beads on the stone surfaces, showing the damp conditions of the turn of the seasons. Vertical lines of the ribs rise sharply against the horizontal flow of the water, creating a stark contrast between the solid structure and the fluid reflection. A droplet rests on the edge of a lower slab, ready to fall.
