Riad Entrance in Marrakech

by Ruben Pollard

The blue hour settles over a narrow Medina alley, where cool indigo shadows compete with the warm, saturated glow spilling from a nearby spice shop. A local cyclist in a faded blue djellaba navigates past the entrance of a traditional riad, his tires rolling over worn flagstones that reflect the ambient light. Beside the heavy wooden door, a cluster of potted geraniums in chipped terracotta pots bursts with vibrant red blooms, their organic shapes contrasting against the rigid geometry of the surrounding ochre walls. A fleeting moment of transit, framed by the deepening twilight and the enduring textures of ancient masonry.
