Bicycle at Flat Noon Light
by Janice Hess
Flat noon light washes over a sun-bleached stucco wall in the Habous district, where a faded blue bicycle leans against the rough plaster near a wrought-iron gate. The harsh overhead sun casts sharp, geometric shadows beneath a parked scooter, highlighting the texture of the concrete pavement. A small, chipped ceramic pot sits on a low ledge, holding a single dry branch that catches the edge light. The scene is quiet and still, with no people in view, showing the architectural lines and the contrast between the cool blue paint and the warm, dusty tones of the surrounding buildings. The bicycle’s rubber tires are cracked from the heat, adding wear to the otherwise pristine streetscape.
