Rain slicks the narrow alleyway in Muttrah, turning the limestone paving into a dark mirror that reflects the warm spill from a nearby spice shop. A local vendor huddles under a corrugated metal awning, his hands busy repairing a broken rattan stool with strips of woven palm frond. Beside him, a faded blue pitcher sits on a low wooden crate, condensation beading on its surface from the cool evening air. The wet grout between the stone steps is dark and heavy, absorbing the twilight. In the background, the silhouette of a dhow rests against the harbor, its rigging blurred by the steady drizzle.
