Rain streaks on car windshield night sky in along a switchback approach near Swabi

Rain streaks on car windshield night sky

by Stephen Long

Vertical rivulets of water climb the curved glass of a car windshield, distorting the deep night sky above. Faint ground glow from a distant switchback road near Swabi illuminates the lower frame with a soft, amber haze. The sky remains a vast, perfectly clear expanse of indigo, punctuated by sharp, unmoving stars. Water droplets vary in size, some merging into thin trails that blur the distant lights into vertical smears of white and gold. The texture of the glass feels cool and slick, against the dry, hard edges of the road visible through the lower distortion. One droplet rests on the center, holding a miniature reflection of a distant streetlamp.
