Rain Beaded Carrots in Osh Fields Late Autumn

by Steven Rojas

Water droplets rest on the rough, orange skin of young carrots arranged in a straight furrow that stretches across the frame. The soil is dark and saturated, glistening under a heavy, uniform gray sky that fills the upper portion of the view. Late autumn leaves the ground bare of green foliage, leaving only the earthy tones of the crop and the wet dirt. Soft, diffused light eliminates harsh shadows, highlighting the texture of the mud and the roundness of the vegetables. The row creates a strong leading line that draws the gaze deep into the misty distance where the field meets the overcast horizon. Tiny rivulets of water slide slowly down the sides of the carrots, pooling in the shallow depressions of the tilled earth.
