Prism Light on Lower East Side Pier in on a pier railing in Lower East Side, New York

Prism Light on Lower East Side Pier

by Eileen McLeod

Copper-toned light falls through a glass prism resting on a weathered wooden pier railing. The glass fractures the fading daylight into sharp spectral bands that spill across the wet planks below. Rain-slicked metal bolts gleam under the dimming sky, reflecting the warm glow of nearby streetlamps. Pools of amber light settle into the cracks between the boards, against the cool gray of the wet wood. The prism sits angled against the railing, casting a delicate rainbow that stretches toward the darkening water. one drop of rain rests on the glass edge, catching the sunset reflections. The scene is quiet, with the light slowly yielding to the approaching night shadows.
