Predawn Cathedral Silhouette Stained Glass Warmth in in a chapel lit by stained glass in Pecs

Predawn Cathedral Silhouette Stained Glass Warmth

by Camden Bullock

Predawn darkness fills the interior of the Pecs chapel, broken only by the glow of firelight and the colored radiance of stained glass windows. A massive cathedral facade stands as a dark silhouette against the vibrant, shifting hues of the stained glass behind it. The warm gold tones of the firelight catch the edges of the stone architecture, creating deep shadows that pool in the recesses of the arches. Late spring light falls through the intricate leaded panes, casting patches of red, blue, and amber onto the stone floor. The heavy, solemn gravity of the space is visible in the stillness of the unoccupied nave and the sharp contrast between the black void of the facade and the luminous glass. One beam of amber light rests on the cold, rough texture of the lower stone step.
