Dry season dust hangs low in the air of a spacious ceremonial hall near Soweto, where a dancer stands in full regalia against the glow of evening light. The figure is a sharp silhouette, feathers and fringe outlined by the backlight that falls through high windows. Layers of other participants recede into the dimmer background, creating depth within the large indoor space. Low-hanging clouds outside the structure cast a soft, diffuse gray light that contrasts with the warm glow behind the main subject. The dancer's posture suggests playful movement, frozen in a moment of performance. The hem of the skirt rests just above the concrete floor, catching a faint rim of light.
