Porcelain Vase in Naples

One blue and white porcelain vase sits on a narrow stone windowsill, catching the flat winter light that falls through the open shutter. The ceramic glaze reflects the dull gray sky above, against the rough, sun-bleached plaster of the exterior wall behind it. A thin layer of dust coats the rim of the vase, evidence of the dry air that characterizes the season in this part of Naples. Below the sill, a glimpse of a terracotta roof tile anchors the composition in the dense urban fabric of the city.
