Piper Spotlight on Delhi Festival Stage Dawn
by Alec Rivera
Brilliant white beams from theatrical spotlights slice through the pre-dawn haze, illuminating a piper standing center stage. The musician wears a traditional Scottish kilt with deep red tartan patterns, the fabric heavy and textured against the cool morning air. A silver bagpipe rests against the chest, the leather pipes dark and worn. Drifting festival dust particles glow like suspended gold within the sharp light cones, floating around the musician's shoulders. Behind the figure, the stage backdrop fades into shadow, hinting at the vast empty space of the Delhi festival grounds before the crowd arrives. The piper's gloved fingers press firmly against the chanter, while a faint shadow stretches across the wooden stage floor. one drop of condensation rests on the silver ferrule at the end of the pipe.
