Pigeons in Los Angeles

A cluster of gray pigeons gathers on the sun-bleached concrete ledge of a downtown Los Angeles balcony. The overcast midday light flattens the shadows cast by the birds onto the rough stucco wall behind them. One pigeon preens its feathers while others peck at invisible crumbs scattered near the edge. A small terracotta pot containing a dried cactus sits just out of focus in the immediate foreground.
