Oxidized Copper Color Study in Predawn Firelight

by Judith Wright

Patina-covered copper sheets display a spectrum of teal, emerald, and rust tones against a deep, hard-edged shadow. The metal surface shows fine pitting and smooth oxidation layers reflecting the warm, flickering glow of nearby firelight. Dust particles float visibly in narrow shafts of dim predawn light filtering through a skylight above. Diagonal lines formed by the metal edges and shadow boundaries create a tense, rhythmic geometric structure. The cool blue-grey of the early summer darkness contrasts with the intense orange fire reflection on the textured copper. A sharp line of light traces the edge of a rusted corner where the metal meets the dark void.
