Bright Durban afternoon sun slants through the open doorway of a cluttered workshop, illuminating a pair of heavy-duty rubber oven mitts resting on a scarred wooden workbench. The thick, heat-resistant material of the gloves shows deep creases and dust accumulation, contrasting sharply with the smooth, cool surface of a nearby metal trowel. Behind the primary tools, shelves are lined with local clay pots and stacks of corrugated iron sheets, hinting at the coastal construction industry. One drop of sweat glistens on the rubber cuff of the left mitt, catching the harsh sunlight and showing the physical labor just completed.
