Under the flat, diffused light of an overcast Durban midday, a street vendor’s open-air stall shows a moment of transaction on a worn concrete counter. A plastic crate holds bright yellow mangoes and green limes, their skins reflecting the soft ambient glow. Beside them, a pair of rusted pruning shears rests near a stack of brown paper bags, evidence of recent harvesting. A customer’s hand reaches in, fingers brushing a mango, while a faded blue tarp overhead filters the harshness of the sun.
