First light falls through the rain-slicked brick facade of a South Street row house, illuminating a narrow, cluttered stoop where a retired mason organizes his day. A faded blue tool roll rests against a chipped white doorframe, its canvas straps loosened to reveal a single wrench glinting with wet reflection. Beside it, a dented coffee tin holds a bundle of rosemary sprigs, their green needles sharp against the gray stone steps. A small, frayed braided rug lies partially underfoot, its fibers catching the diffuse morning glow.
