Sweeper Pausing in Philadelphia

Damp cobblestones in Old Philadelphia reflect the pale, cool light of early morning as a lone street sweeper pauses beside a historic brick rowhouse. The rough red masonry is marked by the dappled leaf shadows of a mature sycamore, its branches heavy with late summer green. A faded blue utility box stands adjacent to a wrought-iron fence, its surface streaked with rain. In the background, the silhouette of a church steeple pierces the gray sky, while a discarded newspaper lies curled near a puddle, its ink bleeding into the wet stone.
