Rain-slicked brick pavement reflects the pale, diffused light of early morning in a narrow Boston alleyway, where a delivery cyclist pauses beside a rusted service door. A faded blue tool apron hangs loosely from a hook, its pockets bulging with heavy wrenches, while a single black slipper lies overturned near the curb, abandoned after a hurried exit. Water drips steadily from a corroded fire escape above, pooling around the base of a wooden hanger left to dry on a windowsill.
