Midsummer afternoon light falls through sheer curtains, illuminating a miniature drag performer poised mid-lip-sync atop a wooden hotel dresser in Jinli, Chengdu. Neon bar lights cast pink and blue hues across the performer's sequined bodice and heavy stage makeup. The room's wooden floor reflects these muted colors in soft, elongated streaks. Dominating the air above the dresser, a translucent blue whale swims through the invisible space, its massive form casting a distinct, dark shadow that falls directly over the dresser and the performer below. The scale creates a surreal juxtaposition between the intimate, gritty performance and the impossible ocean creature gliding through the air. One reflection of the whale's fin glimmers on the polished wood surface.
