Neon Barber Pole Above Wet Street in Lucknow

Red and white spiral stripes of a barber pole glow intensely against the grey afternoon sky. The glass tube reflects the damp pavement below where light drizzle has pooled. Beside the pole, a bus shelter steams up, its plastic sheeting fogged with condensation from the early winter chill. Dappled sunlight falls through overhead leaves, casting shifting patches of gold and shadow across the wet concrete. Water droplets rest on the metal frame of the shelter and the pole's mounting bracket. The colors of the neon vibrate against the muted browns of the tree branches and the slick black of the road. A small puddle near the curb mirrors the spinning red and white bands.
