Neon Barber Pole Above Wet Chongqing Street

Red, white, and blue stripes spiral up a cylindrical pole mounted high above a rain-slicked arcade walkway in Chongqing. The wet asphalt reflects the pole's glow and the distant amber haze of the city horizon. Heat shimmer distorts the air above the pavement, creating a wavering, liquid effect that blurs the lower edges of the shuttered storefronts. Overhead, the red and white stripes rotate slowly, casting rhythmic streaks of light onto the dark, corrugated metal shutters lining the walkway. The colors bleed into the puddles below, mixing with the deep shadows of the midsummer evening. A faint reflection of the spinning cylinder appears in a shallow pool of water near the curb, rippling gently as the last drops of rain fall.
