Red and white spiral stripes on a barber pole burn with electric neon light against the deep shadow of a wet side street in Cumilla. Rainwater beads on the metal casing, distorting the colors into streaks of crimson and white. The dark asphalt reflects the glowing cylinder and the harsh fluorescent tube of a nearby convenience store. Dramatic gray clouds fill the sky above, illuminated by the first pale rays of sunrise that carve a sharp rim light along the top edge of the building. The street tilts sharply to the right, anchoring the scene in a candid, everyday moment of early morning stillness.
