Moss-Covered Water Trolley in Guangzhou Hall in inside a banquet hall before service in Guangzhou

Moss-Covered Water Trolley in Guangzhou Hall

by Brynn Shelton

Brushed metal and plastic surfaces of a water refill trolley stand in a Guangzhou banquet hall where vertical walls and pillars are entirely encased in thick, living moss and grass. The vegetation grows sideways across the door frames and along the curtain-draped windows, defying gravity while the trolley remains upright. Dust particles float in shafts of early afternoon light filtering through sheer curtains, illuminating the vibrant green textures against the cool tones of the season. Linen and paper tags hang from the cart's handles, their edges sharp against the overgrown surroundings. Leading lines formed by the mossy walls guide toward the cart, showing the contrast between the manufactured objects and the wild, impossible growth that blankets the room.
