Medan Office Moss Growth Sideways on Walls
by Freda Tanner
Pale window light floods a conference room near Medan, illuminating a new-hire monitor wipe-down cart positioned on patterned carpet. The wet season outside presses against the glass, but inside, a surreal transformation occurs. Every vertical surface—walls, partitions, and cabinet sides—bears thick layers of green moss and tufts of grass growing horizontally as if gravity pulls sideways. Polished surfaces catch small, sharp highlights from the broad commercial skylight overhead. The cart sits amidst this impossible verdant texture, its plastic handles and metal frame distinct against the living walls. Shallow depth of field blurs the far glass partitions while keeping the moss texture on the nearest wall crisp and detailed. One patch of bright green moss rests on the edge of a whiteboard frame.
