Moonlit Sugar Refinery Pipes Along Khartoum Road in along a service road lined with pipes near Khartoum

Moonlit Sugar Refinery Pipes Along Khartoum Road

by Miranda Cordova

Cold moonlight falls across a dense network of industrial pipes running parallel to a service road near Khartoum. The metal surfaces are coated in a thick, chalky white residue that glows faintly against the deep blue night sky. Fine dust hangs suspended in the air, catching the pale light to form visible shafts that drift between the pipes. Heavy, utilitarian lines of infrastructure stretch into the distance, anchored by the rough, powdery buildup on the pipes and the smooth, dusty ground below. At the far end of the road, a pipe joint reflects the moon, creating a sharp point of light against the dark metal.
