Moonlit Stepwell Descending Into Darkness

Faint silver rim light traces the curved stone edges of a descending stepwell carved into a wind-scutted desert escarpment near Sintra. Predawn darkness swallows the lower tiers, leaving only the faint outline of geometric staircases fading into the abyss. Still water at the bottom mirrors the pale sky above, creating a perfect, glassy surface. Early spring air hangs as a thin, light fog that softens the rough texture of the weathered limestone walls. The structure occupies the right third of the view, while the deep shadow of the well dominates the center. One beam of moonlight strikes the water's edge, illuminating a small ripple before fading into the gloom.
