Moonlit Pier and Gulls Under Desert Escarpment in beneath a wind-cut desert escarpment in Rio Grande do Sul

Moonlit Pier and Gulls Under Desert Escarpment

by Elliott Frank

Cold moonlight spills across a weathered wooden pier stretching into still, mist-laden water. Three gulls huddle on the railings, their feathers ruffled and gray against the dark timber. Above, a massive wind-sculpted escarpment rises from the desert floor, its jagged silhouette cutting through the thick predawn fog. The water below acts as a perfect mirror, doubling the gulls and the pier's structure in a symmetrical reflection. Thick mist obscures the base of the cliff, creating a soft boundary between the solid rock and the liquid surface. The scene remains silent and still, with the only movement hidden within the swirling vapor. A sharp edge of the pier railing reflects clearly in the dark water below.
