Midday Light on Cat in Dublin
by Sam Garcia
Under the flat grey light of an overcast Dublin midday, a narrow Georgian street corner reveals a lived-in windowsill where a grey tabby cat rests beside a cluster of mismatched kitchen containers. The foreground is dominated by a chipped biscuit tin and a glass cloche, their surfaces dull against the wet, dark brickwork of the building facade behind them. A terracotta bowl sits slightly out of focus in the mid-ground, anchoring the scene with earthy tones that contrast sharply with the slick, rain-sheened pavement below. A sudden gust lifts the corner of a yellow raincoat on a passing pedestrian, casting a fleeting, blurred shadow across the static arrangement of household objects.
