Chicago Cat at Noon Light

Condensation blurs the lower pane of a corner stoop window, separating the interior warmth from the gray winter noon light outside. Through the fogged glass, a woven cane chair back is visible, occupied by a cat whose fur blends with the shadowed upholstery. Outside, on the wet concrete steps, a hand broom leans against the brickwork, bristles damp and matted. A vintage radio sits on a nearby windowsill, its wooden casing reflecting the dull sky. A quiet moment of domestic stillness against the cold urban backdrop, with the texture of the cane contrasting against the smooth, wet stone and the reflective glass.
