Matariki Ceremony Stars Wellington Temple Courtyard

Crisp late-afternoon light falls through heavy overcast skies above a stone temple courtyard in Wellington, casting soft, diffused shadows across the scene. A group gathers for the Matariki Maori new year ceremony, their traditional woven cloaks displaying intricate black and white patterns against the grey masonry. The sky above holds a faint, enigmatic glow where the Pleiades stars are just beginning to emerge, visible despite the cloud cover. Wooden beams frame the upper third of the view, supporting a tiled roof that angles sharply against the horizon. Textured wool fabrics drape over shoulders, against the smooth, weathered granite of the courtyard floor.
