Inti Raymi Ceremony in Callao Temple Courtyard

Deep shadows dominate the foreground of the stone temple courtyard in Callao, Lima, while a sharp rim light traces the edges of figures in traditional Inca ceremonial costumes. Gold and crimson fabrics catch the first rays of the rising sun, creating bright highlights against heavy, low-hanging gray clouds that obscure the sky. Layers of stone architecture recede into the distance, extending past the robed participants toward the fading light. The turn of the seasons appears in the muted, cool tones of the stone and the stillness of the drapery. One beam of light strikes the intricate feathered headdress, revealing the texture of the plumes against the dark, shadowed background.
