Man at First Light
by Ariel Stone
First light after rain washes the curved facade of a traditional Omani house in pale, saturated pastels, the wet stone reflecting the soft grey sky. A local man in a crisp white dishdasha and a vibrant, embroidered kuma leans against a wooden balcony, holding a small porcelain cup where faint steam rises into the cool air. His posture is relaxed, one hand resting near the carved lattice, while his gaze is fixed on the street below where a white pickup truck navigates the slick, narrow road. A quiet moment of daily life, with the damp air softening the edges of the architecture and the bright colors of his sash standing out against the muted, rain-washed surroundings.
