Traditional Architecture in Muscat

The low winter sun casts long, sharp shadows across the white limestone facade of a traditional Omani house, highlighting the intricate geometric patterns of the carved wooden mashrabiya screens. In the foreground, a street vendor’s cart sits idle, its surface cluttered with the morning’s first preparations: a stack of small glass tea cups, a tarnished tin box for spices, and a few ceramic tiles used as coasters. The horizon is dominated by the rugged, hazy silhouette of the Al Hajar Mountains, their peaks glowing with the first pink light of dawn. One park bench stands empty nearby, facing the street, waiting for the day’s activity to begin.
