Laotian Village Silhouette Wet Season Sunset

Pools of rainwater on the valley floor reflect the dark, stepped terraces of a village clinging to the hillside. The setting sun behind the mountains turns the houses into sharp black shapes against a sky streaked with orange and grey clouds. Vertical shafts of rain fall between the hill and the water, blurring the boundary between the solid earth and its liquid mirror. The terraced fields create a rhythmic pattern of dark soil and wet stone. A thin layer of mist hovers just above the water's surface, softening the reflection of the highest rooftops. The wet ground absorbs the fading light, leaving the foreground in deep shadow while the sky remains bright and heavy with moisture.
