Jaw Harp Player in Bolivian Mountain Yurt
by Isla Keith
Pale dawn light spills across the interior of a high-altitude dwelling, illuminating the rough, woven texture of the thatched walls. A figure sits cross-legged on a patterned rug, fingers plucking the metal tongue of a jaw harp. The sidelight skims the grain of the wooden frame and catches the dust motes suspended in the air. Early spring frost lingers on the exterior ground visible through the open doorway, against the warm glow of the embers inside. The structure leans slightly under the weight of the heavy roof beams. A Dutch angle tilt emphasizes the verticality of the wooden posts against the clear, pale sky outside. at the edge is the reflection of the firelight shimmering on the curved brass of the instrument.
